Kindergarten - Students begin Computer Technology in Kindergarten by learning how to log into their individual laptops. Students start out learning the basics of proper usage of computer components and programs, safe and effective internet navigation for research, and keyboard recognition. Students in Kindergarten and First Grade use a program called "Keyboarding without Tears," which teaches proper posture and finger placement among other techniques.
1st - 5th grade -students become familiar with the following programs; Code.org, IXL, Typing Club, PixelArt, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, ABCya, and a variety of Internet search engines. Students become familiar with Portaportal as a way to find links to specific websites. Starting in 1st grade, students also begin learning the basics of computer programming through Code.org. Later they use both Turtle and Khan Academy.
6th - 8th grade- Students utilize technology within their Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Math classes. Technology is integrated into these classes to provide context and meaning to the curriculum. Students develop their typing, word processing, and Internet research skills. They also use iPad apps to supplement their core curriculum. Students in 5th-8th grade continue to focus on keyboarding skills using Typing Club, and are asked to practice these skills at home.
SMART BOARD TECHNOLOGY
SMART Boards™ are used both in classrooms and homerooms. This technology allows all students within a classroom to view digital textbooks, visit websites, interact with educational games, and respond to instruction.
